steam railway dorset

Over the past few years, members and the public in general have been extraordinarily generous in giving donations for our various appeals to undertake specific projects. We now have the chance to lay sufficient track at Shillingstone to create what we are calling our ‘Magic Runaround’ - a loop of track with points to allow flexible movement of rolling stock and finally, recreate a working railway at our site.

We already have all of the rails and a substantial number of sleepers and other fittings. We also have the mechanical equipment to do the job. Above all, we have a band of willing volunteers ready to start the task. What we need to find and finance now are the necessary points panels to complete the ‘circle’. Because of their complexity, these items are both scarce and expensive and we need to raise a considerable sum to see this dream come true.

It is our aim to have the ‘Magic Runaround’ laid and in operation by the Spring of 2016, the 50th anniversary of that fateful time in 1966 when Dr. Beeching’s axe fell upon the Bournemouth to Bath line and the S&D passed into history. We can bring a part of it back to life BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP. We invite you to subscribe as a Platinum, Gold or Silver member, the benefits of which are shown below. PLEASE HELP US ACHIEVE OUR GOAL BY GIVING AS GENEROUSLY AS YOU CAN TO THIS APPEAL.

With sufficient cash and our determination to succeed, we can look forward with confidence to the day when motive power is seen in action at Shillingstone once again.
